Orientation day – A Report
On Saturday 16th March, 2013, an orientation programme for the parents of children for pre – school was organized by the school. The purpose of the orientation day was to familiarize parents with the school working & to make the transition from home to school enjoyable & exciting for both the children & parents.
The orientation day began in the children’s classrooms, where the parents met the teachers & explored the classroom & the resources (e.g. Whiteboard, hand puppets, educative blocks etc) used in the daily teaching.
The class teacher welcomed the parents and informed them about the school system. A detailed schedule with guidelines and suggestions for the parents was given in the form of handouts.
Later the school counselor discussed the various aspects of good parenting. She also encouraged & guided the parents to be their kid’s role model by assisting them in cleanliness activities as the kids learn by imitating adults.
The orientation programme thus aims at giving the parents of the new students, the feeling of being ‘at home’ in the school atmosphere & a scope to get accustomed to it. The programme helps the parents & their wards to identify themselves to the institutions immediately & to develop a sense of belonging. It prepares them to expect certain things from the school and to discover the way it would be gone about. It is an occasion when new dreams are given shape and are launched for which mutual trusts are exchanged & planted on firm grounds or foundations.
