SELF DEFENCE CAMP
AT
D.A.V. PUBLIC SCHOOL, EAST OF LONI ROAD, DELHI - 93
There had been a time in ancient India, when women were free not only to be educated in theoretical knowledge but also in holy scriptures & wielded the arms & armaments like their men in the society. They could learn horse riding & swimming etc. However, this golden period is now overshadowed by a fear that dominates a woman’s heart whenever she has to move out into the wider world. She feels weak & insecure, inspite of the vigilant state security system. The Delhi Police, compelled by its sense of sincere responsibility, in this relation, initiated a week long awareness & Self- Defence camp at D.A.V Public School, East of Loni Road, from 8th July,2013 to 13th July,2013 for the girl students from IV TO XII classes.
During the week, our girls, under the expert guidance of Mr. Rakesh Pal, Karate inspector of Delhi Police learnt some simple yet very useful & handy self defence techniques like – one hand holding, opposite hand holding, collar holding, back collar holding, front holding & back holding etc. The girls enjoyed learning these techniques & expressed their gratitude to The Delhi Police for providing them with such a unique experience in their lives, which they said will live on in them as ‘confidence’, newly regained through a new awakening towards their potentials & by gaining a faith in themselves, that ‘Yes, they are something & they can stand on their own’.
The workshop ended with a grand valedictory ceremony. The chief guest was Mr. Deepak Mishra, special commissioner of Delhi Police Law & Order who came to bless the meritorious performance of our girls during the training session. In a feedback by our girls, who had participated in the week long camp, our girls expressed their experience that they had come to realize that it is important to share any kind of odd happenings more openly with our parents, friends, teachers, neighbours & also with the police who is always prepared to help us out. This works a great extent towards controlling crimes.
During the closing ceremony of the camp, on 13th July, 2013, the chief guest Mr. Deepak Mishra was given a floral welcome by our honorable manager Shri Nanak Chandji & respectable madam principal Mrs. Sameeksha Sharma. Mr.Deepak Mishra gave away trophies & certificates to those girls who had shown special excellence in various areas of their performance. A team of police men & women in smart uniforms of black & white displayed how the girl can put the attacks on herself to waste through simple techniques.
